Q. What about exchanging money in Abadiania, Brazil?
A. The Brazilian unit of money is the Real or Reais, abbreviated R or BRL. The exchange rate varies. A place at "Moon Stone" in Abadiania exchanges foreign money in cash and offers a fair rate. There is an ATM, however it is not always reliable and has a poor exchange rate. There are also ATM"s at the airport in Brasilia which have a decent exchange rate. Credit cards are accepted at some places of business, though you get a better price if paying in cash. The Casa bookstore will take credit cards for purchases over $50R. We suggest bringing what you think you will need in cash and use credit and debit card as a back-up. You may want to exchange a few dollars before the trip into Reais. The exchange rate is slightly less favorable changing it at home or airport, but you may find it worth those few dollars for the peace of mind. We will help you to exchange money once we have arrived in Abadiania.
For those who travel on a guided retreat with us, since we pass on your room and board payment to the pousada, and your travel to and from the airport is included in the trip fee (when traveling with the group), there is no need to carry that large portion of your money. It’s all taken care of for you. We recommend you bring at least an extra $200 US per week to cover bottled water, crystal bed, and massage treatments, an occasional taxi to the waterfall, and visits to the swimming pool, juice bar or snacks. If you intend to purchase crystals and/or gifts, you may want to bring extra cash depending on your budget. See Your Responsibilities for more detail on expenses.
Q. What is the electrical current in Brazil?
A. The electrical outlets in Brazil have a different voltage and configuration than those in the USA, and require an adaptor (220v). The pousada has adaptors for the US to Brazilian plug type that you can use with a deposit and that's what I have used for my toothbrush and laptop. Most chargers for phones, laptops, etc. already have a built in power converter. Do check your device to see if it has that built in. It's things like hairdryers where you might want a power converter to go from 220v to 110v.
Q. Do I need vaccines to enter Brazil?

Q. How can I communicate with friends and family?
A. We use email, Skype, or instant messaging for communication with folks at home using laptop and smart phone. Our pousada has high speed wireless connection (though sometimes is sluggish). Internet cafes that rent computer time for people without their own computers are available. A local and convenient cafe, also has free WiFi. You may want to get an international plan for your cell phone for the time of the trip and if not be sure to keep your phone on airplane mode to avoid large fees.
Q. Is it okay to go sightseeing on Saturday through Tuesday?
A. It is important to stay within the energy vortex in Abadiania in order to maximize your experience and not dissipate the energy being given to you. The healing energies work 24/7. Taking the opportunity to spend time in solitude and prayer, relaxing in a hammock, resting in your room, taking quiet walks, reading or journaling in the beautiful Casa gardens, and in meditation are all recommended.
Q. Is the tap water safe to drink?
A. No the tap water is not safe to drink. Always drink bottled or filtered water or the Blessed water available at the Casa that has been blessed by the Entities of Light. The Blessed water is the same price as regular bottled water and is readily available. Even when brushing your teeth and rinsing your toothbrush, use bottled water. It’s important to drink a lot of blessed water while you are being treated to help flush toxins out of your body and increase your ability to receive deep healing. Drinking the Blessed, high vibration, water is part of the healing offered at the Casa.
Q. When will I be healed?
A. Many factors are involved in answering this question. Each person is unique and each has acquired certain health conditions due to something being out-of-balance in their physical, emotional, mental or spiritual bodies. The spirit guides, known as the Entities, go to the source of the issue and help you to come into alignment in the soul, karma, and energy bodies; and once that alignment occurs, a person can notice improvement in their physical body, in emotions and mind states. Some people have had an instant healing and for some it takes a period of time. Healing is a personal and transforming process which generally unfolds over a period of time. Your healing may be physical, emotional, mental, spiritual or all of these. Some people experience almost immediate results; others recover over time, and some may require multiple visits.

Q. Do I have to wear white clothing the entire time I am there?

It is very disruptive to the plumbing to flush any thing other then what comes out of your body down the toilet. In this case we recommend bringing along a few disposable gloves so that you can easily fish the paper out and throw it away.

Q. Do I need vaccines to enter Brazil?
A. Check with your own healthcare professional for what is advised for you personally regarding vaccines as we can not give you medical advice. However some considerations:
- No Malaria or Yellow Fever have been reported in this part of Brazil. (It is a high plateau of over 3000 ft in elevation and far from the coast.)
- There are no required vaccines if you are flying directly into Brasilia (unless you have traveled to some parts of Africa or Asia prior to going to Brazil). However, if you first land in Rio or Sao Paulo, the Yellow Fever vaccine is required. Please check the CDC recommendations.
- The CDC recommends Typhoid vaccine for Brazil if you are eating risky food and water. We do not drink the tap water, you will buy bottled water to drink. In Abadiania, the food is very safe at the cafes and pousadas. At our pousada, any raw vegetable is washed with filtered water and a food grade cleaning solution that kills bacteria and the food preparation is done with the same standards as the US.
- If you do get vaccines, plan on receiving them at least 2 weeks before you travel.
- During the dry season, May to October, mosquito bites are very rare. There is more of a risk of a mosquito bite during the rainy season, November to April.
